What's New at the Café?

Equal Exchange TeaYou may have noticed some changes to our tea selection here at EEE. At the start of the New Year, we introduced our brand new line of Organic & Fair Trade Equal Exchange Teas. While most teas (even Fair Trade-certified ones) come from large plantations where workers have little say, Equal Exchange is working to build a different system that values the voice of small farmers and their products.

Stop in and try one of twelve new varieties, produced by our small farmer partners in India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and even right here in the Pacific Northwest! Our delicious Equal Exchange teas now include English Breakfast, Black, Darjeeling, Chai, Earl Grey, Rooibos, Vanilla Rooibos, Green, Mint Green, Jasmine Green, Peppermint, and Chamomile. As always, all teas are only $1 every Tuesday!

Of course, we'll also still have many of your favorite Irie teas including Goddess Blend, Echinacea Sunshine, Ruby Fruit, Sassy Spice, Wu Yi Oolong, and White Peony.

Up and Coming Gear, Events & Press:

Awww, we know you love us! That's why we will soon be offering our very own t-shirts. They will read "I Heart My Barista" and will feature the café's new logo. Look for them in the café in early March!

Chocolate lovers unite! Equal Exchange is teaming up with Theo Chocolate this April to bring you a viewing of the film, The Dark Side of Chocolate. This is a 43-minute documentary examining continued allegations of child labor, trafficking, and slavery in the international cocoa industry. Representatives from Equal Exchange, Theo, and other like-minded organizations will be present to answer your questions and let you know what you can do as a consumer to change this system. Co-sponsored by Sustainable Ballard and Seattle Good Business Network. Join us on Thursday, April 14th from 7-9pm at Theo Chocolate in Fremont. 3400 Phinney Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98103.

Finally, if you visited the shop last month, you might have noticed our lovely and talented baristas being photographed for an upcoming article in Sunset Magazine. The April issue of Sunset will include an article featuring the Slayer espresso machine and several Seattle coffee shops, including EEE! Keep an out for it!

There are times when hot tea, even tea au lait, isn't enough. Sometimes you need a big hug in a cup, a.k.a. a chai latte. The EEE is proud to source ours from Third Street Chai. Their beverages and their business practices warm our hearts. Here's more about them, from their Sales Manager Dan Olson:

"At Third Street, we source whole, organic spices and hand-mill them here in our 100% wind-powered microbrewery, located just outside of Boulder, Colorado. We then steep the spices with organic, Fair Trade Certified teas to create a lightly sweetened, perfectly balanced chai. Our commitment to the finest ingredients and the artisanal brewing process gives our chai the freshest, fullest flavor possible. And when we are done, we compost 100% of our ingredients with organic farmers in Boulder County."

Thanks, guys!
